CEF 2019 Workshop: Heterogeneous Agent models with the VFI Toolkit.
Half-day workshop on Thursday 27th June 2019 as part of CEF2019 Conference (Ottawa, Canada).
We will look at how to easily solve value function problems, simulate agent distributions, and compute general equilibrium for various Heterogenous Agent models using the VFI Toolkit.
There will be some slides/theory, an explanation of how to solve almost any value function using the VFI Toolkit, and working through some examples based on Aiyagari (1994), Huggett (1996), and Restuccia & Urrutia (2004). The VFI Toolkit provides an interface such that, having been told the return function, exogenous shocks, and general equilibrium conditions, all the rest of the work to solve the model is done automatically and quickly on the GPU (this is a loose description :).
You will need a laptop, Matlab (including parallel computing toolbox), and your laptop will contain an NVIDIA graphics card (GPU). If you are interested in attending but do not have access to a laptop with a graphics card please contact me directly, robertdkirkby@gmail.com, and we will see what might be possible
For those who would like, it should be possible to extend the workshop for the whole-day and work on replicating a paper using the VFI Toolkit. If this might be of interest to you please email me directly and describe the paper. As long as it is either heterogenous agent or OLG of a complexity not dissimilar to the above-mentioned examples this should be possible. By contacting me I can double-check the paper for whether or not the VFI Toolkit will be able to handle it prior to the Workshop.
Any questions, please contact me: robertdkirkby@gmail.com.
I would also happily hear and requests/suggestions in terms of Workshop content.
